If you go into any home, you’ll see a lot of stainless steel appliances. Refrigerators, ovens, dishwashers, kettles, and other common appliances are all often made of stainless steel. Stainless steel has many appealing qualities, but the main reason we love it in our kitchen is that it’s nice and shiny. At least it is when the appliances are brand new, anyway. If your stainless steel appliances are smudgy, it’s pretty easy to make them shine again with a few things you can easily find at your local hardware store, Town Line Hardware.
Check out these easy methods for cleaning stainless steel.
Warm Water
This is the simplest method and works well for routine cleaning. All you’ll need is warm water, a microfiber cloth, and a towel. Simply get the microfiber cloth damp with warm water and wipe the stainless steel in the same direction as the grain. Once you’ve successfully removed all the grime and smudges, dry the surface with a dry towel to prevent minerals from building up and leaving marks.
If you don’t have any microfiber cloths at home, you can easily find them at the hardware store. They’re great for cleaning all kinds of things; you should add them to your collection of cleaning products and supplies.
Basic Cleaners
If warm water on its own doesn’t do the trick, dish soap or glass cleaner is the next step. Again, take a microfiber cloth and either put a little dish soap on it and wet it with warm water or spray it with glass cleaner. Wipe in the direction of the grain, or use a circular motion if you’ve got a stubborn spot. Once you’ve finished, rinse with warm water and dry with a clean, dry towel.
Stainless Steel Cleaner
For difficult stains or scratches, you may have to pull out the big guns: stainless steel cleaner. Certain cleaners can remove stains, protect against scratches, and polish the surface. If you’re not sure which cleaner to get, a hardware store associate can help you out. Follow the directions on the cleaner, as each formula will be a little different. If you’re not sure how well it will work, try it on an inconspicuous spot first. After you’ve finished, rinse the surface and dry it with a towel.
